A Place for Mom has scored Lutheran SeniorLife with 8.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 14 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Lutheran SeniorLife has 31 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.3 out of 5.
Only shortcoming in transition was that residents' orientation was not detailed, relied on new resident reading handbook prior to move in. Also, initial review was during chaotic period of actual move, details of packing, unpacking, etc. Might have benefitted by follow-up formal re-orientation 7-10 days after move in. Residents, manager and staff of facility were very helpful in answering questions as they occurred. All other items rated at 5. Chef was particular helpful in determining special dietary needs. There is effort to provide various ethnic options and there is an always available menu of soup, omelets, individual pizzas, salads and sandwiches. There is weekly special menu of soup, salad, sandwich and entrees in addition to weekly menu. Cleanliness and friendliness of staff were top notch. Residents were very helpful in welcoming new residents and encouraging participation in scheduled activities. Number of residents is small enough to make it feel like "family" environment. While facility is "independent living" facility, it would be helpful to have transport options at a fee for medical appointments. There are occasions when residents are unable to drive or have family drive them. Not expected that this would be a free service but Uber or Lyft are exorbitant cost, wish there was option to schedule transportation for appts and pay a reasonable fee. Some residents have insurance that would help cover costs. Finally, value for cost is definitely rated 5 when compared to other facilities and cost in area.

My loved one is currently a resident at St John Community and the overall experience has been good so far. The overall care of my loved one and everything else has been good and I am very satisfied. I would recommend St John Community to others.

We did not particularly like the Stonebrook Village when we toured. The place was nice and the people were friendly, but they only provided one meal a day. We were looking for a community that provided all 3.

I visited Stonebrook on 10/28. Staff and residents very friendly. It is located in a peaceful area near family. I have my name on the waiting list beginning April 2017 for a studio apartment.

Visited on April 29th. Really liked the facilities and the amenities are very good. This is the top runner because of proximity to Crafton and her doctors.

This is a nice place over all, and my loved one seems happy here. We've heard very good things about the food.

My apartment is very nice and includes a kitchen area with a counter, sink, microwave and full size refrigerator. The heating/cooling components are very outdated and difficult to adjust the temperature. I also have no heat in my bedroom/bath area. There is a tiny fan in the wall between my living room and the bedroom, which I guess is to transfer heat into the bedroom. It is very inefficient. The aides and other workers are very nice. I have heard that the washers and dryers are old and need replacing. The building is older and more outdated than the main building. Although it lacks the amenities of the main building, the apartment rental costs are the same. The hair salon is absolutely ancient with a very unsafe sink for elderly people. ( It doesn’t raise up or move downward to adjust for different size people, and the water is hard to regulate.) The food in the dining room is mediocre but the deserts are awesome!!

When I went to tour the community it seemed like they were transitioning into new staff. This community did not have staff support for residents. It is more like a senior apartment. We needed assistance for my parents.

Beware what the sales person tells you when you sign up does not match with what the nursing staff actually say happens. Beautiful new facility but the staff needs more training and your loved one gets very little personal attention If they stay in their room and do not participate in the activities. The most difficult thing for me was their billing practices. Again what the salesperson told me does not match up with what the actual billing was. It's a beautiful new building but I hope That the actual care and billing procedures improve quickly. I was charged for services that my mother never got. There are some really good people there. But the staff needs better training.

OK facility but very run down and dirty looking. It is approximately 13 years old and looks every bit of it. The room we were shown was very dark and uninviting. Furniture I had in my college dorm was in better condition.

Here are some bullets: 1. Under staffed 2. Staffed with agency workers had different care givers all the time 3. Did not consistently provide care according to plan - helping father with support hose 4. Staff was mean and would raise voice 5. Few times my father received the wrong medication. 6. Complained to administration and would not call back - only emails after repeated sends Bottom line stay away that facility has big problems. Thank god we got my dad somewhere else!!!!
