Everyone and everything was a great experience for my mother while she was there. On her last days of life, the staff were even more attentive. I would definitely recommend Blair House to others.

Lack of Supervision

The owner was very nice and seemed to genuinely care about my aunt. Some of the staff didn't do a great job, in my opinion. When our family member came home she was in a dirty, saggy depends. Since she only dribbled, I would say no one checked if she changed it in at least a week. Her clothes and belongings were always going missing, some we never got back (including eye glasses that she needed) and we would find her wearing clothes that weren't hers. We paid extra for medication management and would find pills strewn all over her room when we visited. When we finally brought her home after a couple of months I found half of a sandwich bag of prescription medication in different places around her room. I feel for the care she got, I could have locked her unsupervised in an apartment and checked on her a could of times a day and she wouldn't have gotten much worse care. When I told the owner about these things he apologized but said they could only suggest she take her medications and wash and change, they couldn't make her. I was very disappointed and moved her somewhere where she got much better care and was happy until she passed away. I wish I could give a better review but I expected better care from a 5 star rated facility that I was paying almost $7500 a month to.

Great community just not for someone with extra needed care

We gave the overall experience 3 stars because they said they could handle my brother's needs but in the end I had to move him again to their skilled nursing facility. He has dementia and every time I move him it scares him and takes more out of him. Blaire House is lovely and clean. Food is good too. Very friendly staff and caring. They try but we're not able to meet my brother's needs. I had to hire more help at times to stay with him. Very good food. I wouldn't know as my brother did not participate. Other than meals and someone making sure he took his meds, I was paying double what he paid at[community name removed]. Although not the same AS vs. IL, we paid additional for everything else! Although Blaire wasn't for my brother, it was great for someone who doesn't need a ton of care. I never toured the Memory Unit so I cannot say much about it.

Blaire House Review

I think the facility is very nice, old carriage house style, and very well maintained. It has a good-sized section dedicated to a skilled VA approved nursing home facility in case a resident needs to be transferred. Very nice and well maintained grounds for walking and sitting outdoors, and has prescheduled transportation to medical facilities. The service they provide on average is acceptable for the price you pay. Make sure they follow and abide by the "Plan of Care."

Unhappy Daughter

There are good points and bad. But I really have to keep after them about everything. They don't clean my loved one's room thoroughly, even after I bring it up to them. He does enjoy the socialization with his buddies at mealtimes. And that's what's most important to me, how he's feeling. He likes the staff, and they try to encourage him to do activities. In memory care, they tell you they don't really provide care - instead they give cues. They ask if he wants a shower, and of course he says no. I've asked them to work on this and change how they word it, but most of them don't make the effort. I find the majority of the staff is lazy. They leave the floor unattended- there's nobody there. They play on their iPads and things. I'm very dissatisfied with that. They don't check his diapers. Apparently you have to pay a considerable amount extra for that. They're pretty good with activities. They have holiday events with decorations and bring out a cake. They have chair exercises right after breakfast. They close the facility to visitors off and on when people in the facility are sick. The elevator up to memory care broke a while ago, and they haven't fixed it. I was supposed to have a meeting with the nurse, and she brought in the owner, who talks with her hands and yells at you. I thought that was very inappropriate. It was like they were ganging up on me. Another of the owners has screamed at me on a different occasion. The place itself is lovely. It's clean in the public spaces and restrooms. But in my loved one's room, the sheets are soiled and not changed for weeks. If I ask them to, they'll change the sheets. But it's like they're lazy and don't care. His room is dusty, and his bathroom is not clean. A couple of the aides are lovely and concerned and pay attention to the residents. But the way the rest of them are, I get so discouraged. And I'm also disappointed that there are miscellaneous charges for "personal care" on the bill that they can't explain to me.

I was not impressed by what I saw during our tour. It was an old building, and it just seemed dark and claustrophobic to me. The atmosphere wasn't what I wanted for my Mom. The care services seemed fine, and the staff were all perfectly nice, but the building itself left a lot to be desired.

Understaffed

Not sure what the minimum staffing requirements are but this place has to be pretty close. It's hard to find anyone and you find yourself walking all over the place. Housekeeping in resident's rooms is poor but common areas are clean. Concerns and complaints are brushed off and polices and procedures can't be articulated by anyone. Repeated complaints to the owner about the same issue are met with hostility. Most of the staff are generally doing the best they can.

Not the right fit for our needs at this time, a bit of sensory overload during our tour. Didn't seem quite up to the level of other places we've visited, but the availability of long term care was good.

Blair witch house

Was there for rehab. Laziest employees!! I had to help my poor roomate get up from falling twice! I had 3 verbal fights with a nurse. Never once seen them clean bathroom 1 bathroom for 4 people. Yelling and crying all night very sad. Staff did nothing a man was taking my roomate for shower. I made sure that did not happen they were eating candy sent to roomate. The place made me sicker . Dirtiest rooms. Only half had tvs.

Blair House NOT A Good choice for your loved one

Not an overall good experience at all. My elderly father spent five weeks recovering from hip surgery. He was put in the "memory care" unit. I was there every single day for 5 weeks. So very little interaction between staff and residents. Common room had a huge TV that was usually blaring a game show. Even I know Alzheimer patients are confused even more by loud noise. I was between heartbroken and angry all the time. Knew as soon as my dad recovered I was getting him out of there and into another home. We switched to Emeritus, and I witnessed the staff engaging with the patients. I think about all the other poor souls that we left behind in that horrible place. If you truly love your elderly mom, dad, aunt or uncle. Blair House is not the place. Staff puts a good show upfront for you. But you soon learn, terrible terrible place. They didn't even have a nice chair for the patients to sit on in the so called "family room".
