We toured the assisted living community and found it highly unsatisfactory. The facility had an unpleasant odor of urine throughout. The staff members appeared to be on break time before their work was finished. (I.e. Floors in dining room not cleaned, tables not wiped down, carpet not vacuumed. The tour guide was friendly but unable to answer staff to resident ratio questions. The rooms were also all studios which was not an option. There also seemed to be more interest in upkeep of the independent community than the assisted. The carpet was buckling in several areas which would be serious tripping hazards. The decor was nice but looked like it had not been updated since 1990s.

My husband was at Stirlingshire of Coralville for three weeks, and they had one person watching five people. They had to take care of the meals, not cooking them, but serving them. They had to do the laundry and upkeep of the rooms. They had a lot of duties to do while watching people with Alzheimer's. One person is not enough. My husband was there for one week when he fell and hit his head. We took him to the emergency room and everything was okay. The next week he fell and broke his nose in two places. They didn't see him until the blood was starting coagulate on the floor. They finally got in, picked him up, and took him to the emergency room again. They did CAT scans to make sure everything was okay, aside from his nose. The next week, he fell and broke 3 ribs. He, unfortunately, passed away the Tuesday after that happened. I'm not really happy with them. The day he passed away, there was no nurse to be found to check on him or look after him. It was on mine and my sons part. My son went to lunch with him, came back and put him in his chair where he fell asleep. I got there at 2:30pm and he was still sleep. One of the girls came in around 3-3:30pm trying to give him his medications. He wasn't awake, but she put it in his mouth anyway. At about 4:30pm or so, I called the VA because that's who we doctor with and they said to call 911 if he was still asleep. We took him to the emergency room and he passed away two days later. I'm just not happy with Stirlingshire. Every time I said he needed more people to know where he is and what he's doing, they said they don't do that. There were at least three nurses there, but very seldom did they come and check vitals. They depended on the CNA's to pass out medications and take care of the people. I know they are a new company, but there is no excuse for that. There were, however, two ladies there who really seemed to care.

Try calling after 7:00pm and see if anyone answers the phone. Ask for help because you are concerned about a resident. Did you get a message that says the mailbox is full? What if you needed emergency help? Sorry mailbox is full

Please do not place your loved one/s at Solana, we moved my mom out after her second fall and her second broken bone. . The new Director of Assisted Living is the worst. She doesn't return calls, doesn't relay messages from the doctor and does not set up regular care plan meetings as requested. After my mom's second fall and her trip to the ER I called to speak to the Director of Assisted Living to discuss the best care plan for my mother. It took 3 calls to her, 2 calls to her VP, 2 calls to corporate and a week later to get a response from her. However she was able to speak with the hospital and the them that she did not want my mother back because she was too difficult. She also told my mother's LTC Policy that she moved out, and Solana continued to charge another 5 weeks of care. To this day I am still waiting for corporate to return a call to discuss reimbursement for overcharges. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor, do your research, do not judge by the cover. Judge by the number of beds filled, speak to the families of the residents. Do your research and stay away from Solana.

First hand experience of WHERE NOT to MOVE TO...Independence Village is a JOKE. They want one thing!! YOUR MONEY. 1st day my father was there he fell and broke his right arm. We hired Staff of Life to help him in his daily living skills...CNA's REFUSED to get him up to the restroom. NOT THEIR JOB.. One called the fire department to get him up out of his transport chair. They got him in it fine...Reported NOT THEIR JOB TO LIFT!!! I personally talked to Nursing staff about the care and needing help. Got us NOWHERE...If you LOVE your family, DON'T PUT THEM IN INDEPENDENCE VILLAGE IN PEORIA...They didn't get him up for days. He was not assisted to the restroom for days....Moved him out to a skilled nursing facility and Independence Village Charged us for another month...He lived there 11days... [dates removed]. Was NOT a GOOD place. When I told [name removed] we were moving him out, and movers would be there on the [date removed], nowhere did she say you are paid thru [date removed]...RIP OFF... it's ALL ABOUT GETTING YOUR MONEY and NOTHING about CARE! Go listen to their sales pitch...Makes it sound appealing...then live it...I've never seen so many people that DO NOT DO THEIR JOBS!!!

My mom was in this place for four years. In her last two years the quality declined drastically. I live out of town and had to fly in to visit mom. Last year she was declining rapidly and each visit I observed less staff looking in on her, I had to constantly call for help. Her place was very dirty and looked as thought no one cared. My last visits I had to spend most of my time cleaning. Last year we ran out of money and made an agreement to pay what we could for a whole year the amount was excepted until they knew my mom was on her last days. The last time I saw and spoke to my mom was the day we were forced to move her in a smaller space. After a week she passed. Her old place that she lived in for almost 4 years was vacant for 8 months. What was the big rush to move a dying woman. This was the most heartless place I ever heard of. My mom and my family did not deserve this type of treatment.

The food is not good. It is obvious that a lot of it was previously frozen. The service is terrible. Two hours each meal, because they continue to be short-staffed. Silverware is usually dirty. There is a low morale among residents due to staff not respecting their time. List of my Mother's needs that was agreed upon at the beginning of her stay has not been adhered to. Plan on quitting your day job so you can manage them. I had to tell them to brush her hair, change her underwear, cut her food, allow room service when she doesn't want to go to the dining room, all of which was in the agreement before they decided to breach it. Caretakers are loud in the hallways when they socialize.

I liked this community to a degree. :The apartments were nice upstairs, but when you go downstairs to the memory care department it looks like everyone is a child. They are all being fed and the set up was very bad. It looked like a little basement with people in it. It did not impress me at all. I knew then that this would not work out for my wife.

What are you doing about the 5 break-in you have had. Residents tell me your not doing anything and they are worried about their security. If your addressing the issue, that info is not getting to the residents. If your not addressing the issue shame on you

Has not been a great place to live so far. Moved my brother in and we have had nothing but problems since. Worst part is the food service. Lack of servers is the lastest issue. Quality of the food has gone down hill since he moved it. Resident meetings are held but nothing gets accomplished. Very dissatisfied

This facility only cares abouts taking your loves one money. There is no sympathy for the aging process. The food and nutrition is horrible! The turnover of the Certified Care Givers's is high and they are inexperienced. I would not ever recommend this community. Good Luck!

My mom lives at Eve Assisted Living in Hinsdale currently she likes the people who lives there, the food is good although not a lot of healthy food options for people with health issues. The CNA's a less the average and the turn over from the CNA's up to management is a joke. The place is a revolving door!! I will be moving her out and would NEVER recommend this place to anyone!!!

By far the most beautiful & newest place I have seen! Like living in an elegant downtown complex. BUT...my story is such a mess you would think it untrue! Initial price given for room turned into $800 more per month after I had signed a contract & given deposit. Already sold parents home & belongings out of state, for 4 wks the bed linens weren't washed (included in fees), 1st 11 days there nurses did not give 2 of the 6 meds needed! Still happening, Just yesterday I found 2 days worth of Alzheimer's meds not given! Today the nurse gave 3pm & bedtime meds all at 5:30! 5 pills in one gulp! Cna's not following care plan helping with a.m /p.m hygiene. Dentures put in cleanser 14 out of 49 days! Much much more! The Director got fired over this & the marketing director, & the maintenance man! yet my 4 hr. meeting with the owner gained me nothing. I felt some form of credit for the obvious breaches to the contract due to all of the lies his employees have told me & most importantly my loved ones medical care.I give it till end of month to see major changes with the new director or i have to begin to search again. Poor thing will be so confused again & I am emotionally shot! DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER
