The staff is the main reason I chose this facility. I just really clicked with the nurses. I looked at a fancy facility that was about the same price, but there are a lot of amenities that my mom would never...

I loved the menu, and the size of the community. It was more expensive than some of the other options I was considering. They were a little more pushy, calling quite often and following up. They were very nice and very beautiful, but a little further away for us. They don't have independent living, everything is some level of assisted. I didn't like the layout of the rooms either, some of the bathrooms were off of the living room instead of the bedroom, and the rooms were small. The carpeting wasn't that nice either, not very plush. The community areas and dining rooms were lovely, but the apartments weren't as nice as the rest of the place.

Before 2021, I would have said this was a 5 star facility, however they have been steadily increasing fees at twice the rate of inflation and the service quality has been steadily dropping. Several needed repairs and defects in the apartment that just don't seem to get fixed. One major item is mold growth during the summer. Some mishaps with staff not being able to transfer a resident from wheelchair to sofa or water closet resulting in injury. Staff do not reliably follow doctor orders for patient care.

I enjoyed my visit to Potomac Place. I am not considering it for my mother as the units have equipped kitchenettes, including electric stoves. As my mother ages, she has become more forgetful and sometimes leaves a pot of the stove and doesn't remember it until she smells it burning up. I don't want mother to have access to a stove.

While the building is dated and needs an overhaul, as do the rooms, it was a very busy, active place. Lots of activities for the residents who seemed pleasant and friendly. The prices are decent for the Northern Virginia area, but close to places with nicer, more updated facilities. The dining room was a bit of a walk from the elevator. Nice solarium and side rooms. Staff was very friendly.

Community was going through some renovations and was a bit older than the others that I had visited. The memory loss floor was separated by several floors from some of the other ammenities. I was not as impressed as I was with the other locations and the resident rooms seemed more like a hotel.

This one had the room size and the good price, but something about it had a shabby feel. I also did not like its location. Nice lady gave me tour. Would need 1st floor room, but I think mom would wig out here. But rooms were large enough and the price was good.

I have a relative at this facility since 2017 and they were a 5 start facility at that time. Since Covid there has been a change in all the key positions and quality has dropped greatly. They are not following doctor care instructions very closely, Administrator left and residents were not notified for months, billing is often in error, we have had a list of repairs that have not been made for over 6 months, rent and care increase have been going upwards of 5% per year even when CPI (inflation) rates have been half that amount. Communication is poor at best and probably my biggest concern. Questions are typically ignored. Best part of the facility is the nursing staff.

Clean, friendly staff, except for nursing director. The patient was rapidly declining, I informed nursing staff but they ignored me until it was too late. Before admission, I was assured that they would be able to provide appropriate care , but they were overwhelmed. Probably a good choice for people with some limitations, but not for anyone with significant physical needs, even though they state that they can.

My sister and I moved our elderly parents into Tall Oaks several years ago because had suffered several falls and could no longer care for themselves in their high rise apartment setting. We investigated and researched several other assisted living facilities in the Northern Virginia area and chose Tall Oaks based on amenities, location. cost, and quality of care. It was a good fit for them for a few months then a steady parade of executive and staff departures started taking place and everything went downhill. My dad passed away 8 months after moving in and we were advised by several people to not move my mom to the dementia floor or to another facility because she was used to the people and the routine there and it would be too upsetting for her. She remained in the same apartment for another year and a half and we had numerous meetings and run-ins with the leadership and staff over her care, or lack thereof. My husband and I would go by after work several times a week to check on her, bring food to her, and clean up because she wasn't eating and living in dirty conditions. She also wasn't bathing and wore the same dirty clothes day after day. She also contracted several kidney and bladder infections from lack of fluid intake and poor hygiene and ended up in Reston Hospital two times. We complained numerous times and were told repeatedly that they couldn't force her to do anything and if she said no to something, they had to respect her wishes. We pointed out that we were paying thousands of dollars each month and at that point, her care consisted of cold food on a tray being plopped down in her room three times a day and someone poking their head in the door every few hours to see if she was still alive. The final straw came on July 4th, 2016 when she managed to get out the front door of the facility, not once but twice, and was found wandering around the parking lot. We finally determined that we could no longer let her remain there so fortunately, we found a wonderful, small residential facility nearby where she has lived since August 2016. She just celebrated her 92nd birthday and has thrived with healthy meals, socialization with the other residents, and loving care from the staff. I truly believe that she would no longer be alive if we had allowed her to remain at Tall Oaks.

this place is severely understaffed, my mother in law had to wait half an hour to an hour and a half too many times before she was attended to. When she asked why they took so long to come, the aides tell her that they have emergencies or have other people to take before her. The aides told her they had 10 to 15 other folks to take care of. Management would probably dispute but my Mel's experience can prove that. If she had a heart attack, she would have been dead before they got to her. this facility's charges are way over priced for the quality of service you will get. The facility reception area and general surroundings are clean, I would give them that, but the quality of service sucks.A short message to management: the receptionist at the front desk isn't the friendliest person at all. The receptionist after all is the first contact to client and should at least offer a smile when guests come in. Instead on a few times we visited and we had a question, she pretended to do busy work until she could not ignore us anymore and finally looked up. She was grumpy every time we visited. This place has been in business for 20 years they claim, but I would not recommend this facility to anybody.

Tall Oaks assisted Living was an awful experience. We constantly had to be on top of them. My mom visited her almost daily. Staff stole items from her room, and they used her private bathroom in the room that she paid for. I would not recommend this facility to anyone.

My mom hated this place. The tour seemed great, but don’t be fooled. Reality is the staff is mean and they ignore the residents. The residents get locked in for C-diff outbreaks all the time. You can’t reach anyone. I went everyday my mom was there and thank god I did. The only good parts are the OT and PT people.

My friend's father took a turn for the worst and these people were rude and said he had to go now. No assistance in helping my friend figure this out. There is no other family and my friend visited almost daily and had meals with his father and others staying there.

We toured this facility and were very disappointed. While the smell of fresh baked cookies greeted us upon arrival that is where the good smells ended. We toured the 3rd floor memory care floor. It immediately smelled unwelcoming. The residents that we saw appeared to be over medicated as they were all just sitting and staring off. There was no interaction between them and the staff that we witnessed. We were instructed to stop and wait when we got off the elevator so we could make sure that no one escaped before the doors closed. We went downstairs to see the activity room and the whole floor smelled moldy and uninviting. There did not appear to be much interaction between staff and residents. We decided quickly that this place is not the solution we are looking for.

I sent an email request to schedule a site visit. I got no response. After a couple days, I called to schedule a visit. I asked if my parents could come together. The woman I spoke to said they didn't have any couples and she'd have to check and get back with me. It's now 4 days later and I still haven't heard from her. Because their lack of calling back, this facility is definitely not one I'm interested in.
